Process-ODS destruction process
(ODS: Ozon Depleting Substances like CFC, HCFC etc.)

SCANARCThe technology is based upon thermal decomposition of ODS under controlled atmospheric conditions. The energy required for this process is provided by a plasma generator which normally is operating on air. The normal operation temperature is about 1250°C. The process is operated under reducing atmosphere.

ODS is injected into a reactor chamber together with air and water. Additional hydrocarbons  can be necessary. Through the process  CFCs/HCFCs are decomposed into H2,CO,CO2,HCl and HF. Directly after the reaction chamber the produced gas will be scrubbed with water saturated with either Ca(OH)2  or NaOH. In a subsequent packed bed the gas is washed to eliminate any remains of acid. The gas is then passed through a wet electrostatic precipitator and flared off in the stack.

Typical emissions to the air:
D&F < 0,1ng/m3N
CFC < 0,5 ppm
NOx < 200 mg/m3
CO  < 100 mg/m3

Chlorine and Fluorine will form salts dissolved in the process water.
If Ca(OH)2 is used for neutralization, CaCl2 and CaF2 is formed. CaCl2 stays in water solution while CaF2 can be separated by filtration.
If instead NaOH is used, NaCl and NaF will both be dissolved into the water.
